As I Drift Away

As I drift away from the noise, chaos, people, and further into the depths of my own soul, I encountered darkness. I had no fear as I have been surrounded by darkness most of my life. Before I even knew what it was, it swarmed me like a pack of bees and tore through me. Facing the darkness is facing your fears, trauma, the uncomfortable, the unknown, and going at it all head on.

As I faced the darkness, I learned to embrace it. Part of facing it is embracing it and letting every inch of your body feel it. Feel the pain, the uncertainty, the weight of it all, the tightness in your chest. Feel the range of emotions as you cycle through feelings of sadness, helplessness, and being alone. How much more of this can I take? Can I do this? Can I get through this? What happens if I don’t? All valid questions and ones that constantly run through my head as I wade through what seems like never-ending darkness.

As I drift away from the noise, chaos, people, and further into the depths of my own soul, I encountered darkness. A darkness that I’ve been surrounded by most of my life. I didn’t fear it as I saw a light in the distance, which gave me hope.
